Redphish

User Experience

User Experience

What to expect when using RedPhish day to day, including the toolbar icon, popup, and link badges.

Last updated: February 2026

The Toolbar Icon

The RedPhish icon in your browser toolbar indicates your protection status:

  • Red icon: Protection is active and working normally
  • Gray icon: Protection is inactive (not signed in, subscription expired, or quota exceeded)

Click the icon at any time to see your current status.

The Popup Interface

Clicking the toolbar icon opens the RedPhish popup, which shows:

  • Your account email
  • Current subscription plan and status
  • Number of URLs scanned
  • Number of malicious links blocked

From the popup, you can sign in, sign out, or access your account settings on redphish.app.

Browsing With RedPhish

When protection is active, RedPhish works silently in the background. You do not need to do anything special. Just browse normally and RedPhish handles the rest.

What Happens on Each Page

  1. RedPhish collects all links on the page
  2. Links are checked against threat intelligence
  3. Unsafe links are marked with a warning badge
  4. The page otherwise loads normally

Link Badges

When RedPhish identifies an unsafe link, it displays a red warning badge next to the link. The badge indicates:

  • The link destination is known to be malicious
  • Clicking the link is disabled to prevent accidental navigation
  • You should avoid this link

On Google search results, badges appear as floating overlays positioned next to the search result title.

Full Page Blocks

Some threats warrant blocking the entire page rather than just marking individual links:

  • Social engineering sites: Pages that try to trick you into running malicious commands or performing dangerous actions
  • Parked domains: Placeholder pages often used in scam campaigns

When a page is blocked, you see a full-screen warning explaining the threat and a button to go back safely.

The Upgrade Banner

If your subscription expires or you exceed your scan quota, RedPhish displays a red banner at the top of web pages. The banner explains that protection is paused and provides a link to upgrade your plan.

You can dismiss the banner, but protection remains inactive until you renew or upgrade.

Checking Your Usage

To see how many scans you have used:

  1. Click the RedPhish toolbar icon
  2. Your scan count and blocked link count appear in the popup
  3. For more details, sign in to your account at redphish.app/profile

When Protection Is Inactive

If the toolbar icon is gray, protection is not active. Common reasons:

  • Not signed in: Click the icon and sign in
  • Subscription expired: Renew at redphish.app
  • Quota exceeded: Wait for the next billing cycle or upgrade your plan
  • Network issue: Check your internet connection

Extension Updates

RedPhish updates automatically through your browser's extension update mechanism. You do not need to do anything to receive updates. After an update, you may need to restart your browser or reload open tabs for the new version to take effect.

Privacy While Browsing

RedPhish is designed with privacy in mind:

  • Your browsing history is never logged
  • URLs are only sent for scanning, not stored on our servers
  • Scan results are cached locally on your device
  • Enterprise metrics are aggregated counts, not individual URLs
